Junior's Composer Competition

  • Through this contest, sponsored by the Florida Federation of Music Clubs, Inc., junior composers through the age of18 have the opportunity to express their musical creativity by writing their own compositions. Any medium is accepted (keyboard, voice, other instruments or any combination thereof). Judges take into account both content and musicianship when judging. They give equal consideration to handwritten manuscripts and computer-generated manuscripts.  The abilities of the entrants for the age bracket in which they are entered are taken into account. Refer to FFMC Form JR 7-3 for Judge's Rating Sheet for FFMC Contest. Students will receive valuable feedback. Juniors may enter only one composition in their State Junior Composer's Contest. First and Second Place winners of the FFMC Junior Composition Contest will be awarded their trophy or ribbon at the FFMC State Junior Convention in May. Check the calendar for location and date. If unable to attend, you or your teacher may request that your trophy or ribbon be mailed to you. Contact Sherry Pollock, FFMC Junior Composition Chair, for details.  http://www.ffmc-music.org/composition.htm

Voices of Joy Summer Camp

What time is it?! Summertime!!! Voices of Joy will hold it's fifth annual summer music camp the first week of June (June 1-5) in Winter Springs (at Willow Creek Church). We filled to capacity last summer, so don't wait to sign up! Acting spaces will be limited and assigned on a first come, first serve basis.
It is our great joy to watch students grow in maturity, confidence and skill - and we have SO MUCH FUN while we travel on the journey!
What do we offer? Improv, Acting, Vocals, Musical Theater, and Dance! No prior experience is required.
Because Willow Creek Church supports our ministry of taking the gift of the arts into the community we are able to keep our costs very low!
There are two camps (both run the same week, June 1-5):
Voices of Joy is for students age 11-18 and runs from 10:15-3:00 Mon- Thurs. and costs $65.00 (plus a $10 per family registration fee). Students select from 4 different class options throughout the day (so one student may choose to do no dancing or singing and stick with improv and acting for the day, while another might do a musical theater number one session, improv the next, and dance for another. It is entirely up to the student as to which classes they choose). On Friday we will have a rehearsal at Willow Creek, then in the afternoon we will perform in the community, and at 6:30 in the evening there will be a family and friends performance back at Willow Creek Church.
NEW OPTION FOR ADVANCED THIS SUMMER! We are excited to be offering two advanced classes this summer.
Class #1: There is an optional advanced class from 3:15-4:15 for those wishing to push themselves to learn more challenging choreography. You do not need to already be a good singer or dancer to join the class, but you DO need to be willing to go home each evening and practice with the videos. The cost of the advanced class is $25.
Class#2: New this summer ~ we will also be offering an advanced improv class, by audition only, during the 3:15-4:15 time block. This class will cover more complex and advanced improv. Information about auditions tba. Cost of the advanced class is $25.
Voices of Joy Jr. is for students age 6-10 and runs from 11:00-12:00 Mon-Thurs. Cost is $35 (plus a $10 per family registration fee). If you have a student with a background in the arts that you believe would be a better fit for the older class, please contact me at the number listed below. **If you have an older student participating in VOJ camp and want to be able to leave your Jr. student when you drop at 10:00 (or you don't have an older student but you just want a little more time) we can arrange for a teacher to be available for games and activities. Cost is $15 for the extra time block for the week. On Friday we will have a rehearsal at Willow Creek, then in the afternoon we will perform in the community, and at 6:30 in the evening there will be a family and friends performance back at Willow Creek Church. Email denisecarr@yahoo.com to register. More at  Voices of Joy
