Homeschool moms, let's plan one of those one day!

Geography and Science Fair

I just wanted to let everyone know that For His Glory Co-op is hosting a science, history, & geography fair for all of the homeschoolers in our area. The date will be Monday, April 28, 9:00 - 11:30 AM.

2014 Science, History, & Geography Fair

Date / Time:  Monday, April 28, 9:00 – 11:30 AM

Rules / Judging:  The fair is open to all homeschoolers grades K – 12. An entry form must be completed for every child participating and turned in by April 21. All entries will be judged, and will receive a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or Honorable Mention ribbon with feedback from the judges. Set-up for the fair will begin at 9:00 AM, and judging will begin at 9:30 AM. Your child may submit more than one entry if desired, but an entry form is required for each individual project.

Guidelines:  Include your name, grade, and project title in large letters that can easily be identified.

Note: Children in the K/1 level will not be required to include a written report with their projects.

SCIENCE
Two types of projects: experiment project board or experiment model/demonstration

Experiment Project Board: This would be used for an experiment you conducted at an earlier time. Include experiment details and results using the scientific method as a guideline. Include at least two pictures. Include a written report attached to the project board. Participants will be given an opportunity to explain their projects to the judge.

Experiment Model/Demonstration: Set up your model and be ready to demonstrate your experiment for the judge. Include a written report with each step of the scientific method included. Note: not all models will require demonstration, but your written report should clearly explain your model, and participants will be given the opportunity to explain their projects to the judge.

HISTORY
·         Two types of projects: project display board or model/diorama
·         Both types of projects should include a written report.
·         Choose one: a time period/era (such as The Dark Ages), an event (such as World War I), or a person (such as George Washington).
·         Participants will be given an opportunity to explain their projects to the judge.
·         Participants are also welcome to dress up and/or bring artifacts or food if desired

GEOGRAPHY
·         Two types of projects: project display board or model/diorama
·         Both types of projects should include a written report.
·         Choose one: country (such as the United States of America), region (such as the Middle East), or continent (such as Europe)
·         Participants will be given an opportunity to explain their projects to the judge.
·         Participants are also welcome to dress up and/or bring artifacts or food if desired

I sometimes simply use this website to expand on a concept each individual  student may be struggling with understanding. Click on current school year. "CTRL" and "F" on your keyboard brings up a search box to look within that page. I like the interactive games and videos. The language arts is wonderful.

Aeronautics Seminar

Come one, come all!  We will be hosting a hands-on aeronautics seminar for homeschoolers of all ages.  This seminar will be taught by Ronnie Goodin, a retired aerospace engineer from NASA.  In the seminar, he will demonstrate the 4 forces acting on an aircraft or shuttle and the 3 ways an air-vehicle moves during flight.  Students will make and launch their own paper rockets and take home their own toy airplane.  The cost is $6.00 per student, first grade through 12th. The seminar will take place at Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church on May 9th 2014 at 2:00.
RSVP by Thursday, April 24th 2014. The deadline is coming up fast so please let me know as I will need to order the airplanes. This event is open to all homeschoolers so please let your friends know. Hope to see you there!
